FAQ
Everything people ask before they download Stratum — what it is, what it does, where your data lives, and what it costs. Short answers, no fluff.
A real native app — not a browser in disguise.
Stratum is a genuinely native desktop app — not Electron, not a browser wrapper, not a web page in a window. The Mac version is built in Swift and the Windows version is a native Windows build, both sharing the same analysis engine. That means instant startup, smooth scrolling through millions of rows, and full offline use — the things web-wrapped "desktop" apps tend to struggle with.
Yes. Stratum is native on macOS 14 (Sonoma) or later and on Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit), with the same features and the same .stratum files on both. Build an analysis on a Mac, hand it to a colleague on Windows, and it opens exactly as you left it.
No cloud account, and no notebooks. You don't need to be online to do your work — Stratum runs entirely on your computer and your data never leaves your machine. The app checks your license periodically and looks for updates; neither request carries any of your data.
It covers the same analyses, but without code. Stratum is point-and-click: import a file, choose a chart or test from a menu, and read the result. It's built for analysts, engineers, and students who want correct statistics and publication-quality charts without writing or maintaining scripts. The free 25-lesson tutorial shows the whole workflow.
One app, from first import to final PDF.
The full arc: descriptive statistics, 30+ chart types, and real inferential testing — t-tests, one- and two-way ANOVA, MANOVA, correlation, chi-square and contingency tests, and linear regression with full diagnostics — plus SPC control charts and built-in machine learning. See the full feature tour.
Yes. Under Analyze ▸ Data Mining you'll find PCA (with scree plot and biplot), K-means and hierarchical clustering, and tree-based models — decision trees, random forests, and boosted trees — with feature importance and one-click predicted-value columns. It's all built in and runs locally; no Python or add-ons required.
Yes. Stratum stays responsive on datasets up to about 5 million rows, thanks to a virtualized grid and lazy filtering. You can import, chart, filter, and aggregate at that scale without the app freezing.
CSV, TSV, and Excel (.xlsx). Drag a file onto the window and Stratum auto-detects the delimiter and infers which columns are numeric versus categorical — for a tidy file there's usually nothing to configure.
Yes. Re-editable formula columns with 100+ functions, a dockable filter inspector with compound All/Any/None logic, and join, stack, aggregate, deduplicate, and sample — all non-destructive, all without leaving the app.
Yes. Export any chart to PNG, JPEG, or PDF, and any report to CSV, TSV, Markdown, HTML, or PDF — clean and watermark-free, ready for a paper, slide, or report.
Yes. Stratum includes I-MR, X-bar R/S, p/np, c/u, CUSUM, and EWMA control charts, with all eight Nelson rules and automatic out-of-control highlighting.
It stays on your computer. Full stop.
Everything stays on your computer. Stratum is offline by design — your data is never uploaded to a server or the cloud, and there is no telemetry on your datasets. See our privacy policy.
It's Stratum's native document format. A single .stratum file saves your data, every analysis and chart, your filters, and your styling together — reopen it and you're exactly where you left off, on Mac or Windows.
